The New Jerusalem

,} ^cin the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me ^dthe holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, 11 having ^ethe glory of God. Her ^{▼▼Or radiance}brilliance was like a very valuable stone, like a ^gstone of ^hcrystal-clear jasper. 12 ^{▼▼Lit having}It had a great and high wall, ^{▼▼Lit having
,} ^kwith twelve ^lgates, and at the gates twelve angels; and names were written on the gates, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel. 13 There were three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west. 14 And the wall of the city had ^mtwelve foundation stones, and on them were the twelve names of the ⁿtwelve apostles of the Lamb.

15 The one who spoke with me had a ^{▼▼Lit measure, a gold reed}gold measuring ^prod to measure the city, its ^qgates, and its wall. 16 The city is laid out as a square, and its length is as great as the width; and he measured the city with the ^{▼▼Lit reed}rod, ^{▼▼Possibly about 1,380 miles or 2,220 km; a Roman stadion perhaps averaged 607 ft. or 185 m}twelve thousand stadia; its length, width, and height are equal. 17 And he measured its wall, ^{▼▼Possibly about 216 ft. or 65 m; a cubit is about 18 in. or 45 cm}144 cubits, by ^uhuman ^{▼▼Lit measure}measurements, which are also ^wangelic measurements. 18 The material of the wall was ^xjasper; and the city was ^ypure gold, like ^{▼▼Lit pure}clear ^aaglass. 19 ^abThe foundation stones of the city wall were decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation stone was ^acjasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth, ^ademerald; 20 the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, ^aesardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprase; the eleventh, jacinth; the twelfth, amethyst. 21 And the twelve ^afgates were twelve ^agpearls; each one of the gates was a single pearl. And the street of the city was ^ahpure gold, like transparent ^aiglass.

22 I saw ^ajno ^{▼▼Or sanctuary}temple in it, for the ^alLord God the Almighty and the ^amLamb are its ^{▼▼Or sanctuary}temple. 23 And the city ^aohas no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for ^apthe glory of God has illuminated it, and its lamp is the ^aqLamb. 24 ^arThe nations will walk by its light, and the ^askings of the earth ^{▼▼Lit bring}will bring their glory into it. 25 In the daytime (for ^authere will be no night there) ^avits gates ^awwill never be closed; 26 and ^axthey will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it; 27 and ^aynothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those ^{▼▼Lit who have been written}whose names are ^bawritten in the Lamb’s book of life.

The River and the Tree of Life

1 And ^bbhe showed me a ^bcriver of the ^bdwater of life, ^{▼▼Lit bright}clear ^bfas crystal, coming from the throne of God and of ^{▼▼Or the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was}the Lamb, 2 in the middle of ^bhits street. ^biOn either side of the river was ^bjthe tree of life, bearing twelve ^{▼▼Or crops of fruit}kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3 ^blThere will no longer be any curse; and ^bmthe throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will ^bnserve Him; 4 they will ^bosee His face, and His ^bpname will be on their ^bqforeheads. 5 And ^brthere will no longer be any night; and they ^{▼▼Lit do not have}will not have need ^btof the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illuminate them; and they will ^bureign forever and ever.
